I am talking about my man, the super handsome, studly James Brinkerhoff. He ran his first ever marathon earlier this month in Aspen, CO (8,000 feet above sea level). His goal was to finish in less than 4 hours but he ended up passing through the finish line just over that at 4hrs 4 minutes. Lame. JK - now he will just have to do it again next year so he can beat his time. Luckily me and my dad tracked him down several times on the course to give him some cheers and moral support. I couldn't believe how fast he was going. It seemed like we would drive forever ahead of him and then he would catch up to us in a couple minutes! Every time we saw him he was doing awesome... He didn't even look phased. He said that around mile 22 though, he started being unable to control his legs and had to do a bit of walking up the hills. I guess this is the dreaded "wall" that marathoners speak of. I wish I got to see this. Not because I enjoy seeing him struggle, but because I honestly believed he was he is a machine and I have never seen him struggle with anything physical before...and I wish I could have been there to walk with him (because this would have been the ONLY time I would have been able to keep up with him) and cheer him on to the end! Even though he didn't make his goal time, he did such an amazing job! He had a smile on his face when he finished, and I'm not sure what else you could ask for. I am so proud.
I also want to give a shout out to my dad for doing the 3.5hr drive so early in the morning so he could be there! We had fun.
Aspen is so beautiful! And the drive up there from here is like none else. We stopped a few times to take pictures.
