Big, Somewhat Old News

I'm pregnant!  It took a while, but it finally happened.  I wrote all the details of this long awaited news, but then I figured it might be too much to share on the blogosphere.  The long and short of it all, we decided to start trying for a baby back in March of 2010, and I found out I was pregnant in August this year.

I feel so incredibly blessed.  I don't want to focus on the negatives or complain about what a long process this felt like, because the truth is, our Heavenly Father knows what is best for us and even though our timing doesn't always seem to work out with his, there is a purpose for whatever happens (or doesn't happen) in our lives, and when.

Thankfully, we have been blessed with great news from the very beginning of this pregnancy.

Funny story:  I had finally decided to make an appointment with an infertility specialist, rather than my regular OB.  I had to schedule the appointment probably 6 weeks out because this doctor's schedule was so full.  The morning of my appointment, I decided to take a pregnancy test, just in case, and what do you know... it was positive. So the first person I told was the receptionist at the specialist's office.  I was wondering if I should even bother coming in for my appointment still.  They were just going to do a bunch of tests and things to find out if anything was wrong.  The receptionist asked the doctor and the doctor told her I should come in just to make sure everything looks okay.  One of the first things I told her when I was there was that I used a dollar store pregnancy test.  (I got tired of spending money on the good ones.)  She got a nervous look on her face and told me a story about one of her patients who did the same thing, and then had her husband pee on one too... Believe it or not, per the dollar store test, he was pregnant too!  This did not make me feel good at all!  I was worried that it was just a false positive.  So, they took my blood, and called me back the next day to, fortunately, confirm that I was indeed pregnant, and scheduled me back for an ultrasound 2 weeks later.  (Meanwhile, I had stopped at the store on my way home and purchased the most expensive pregnancy test they had.  Just to be sure.  It was positive too.  Phew.)  She also mentioned that I was the easiest patient she had ever had.  All I had to do was make an appointment, and ta-da! I was pregnant.  Kind of ironic, I guess.

This is the first little glimpse of our baby that we got at approximately 6 weeks:
Then we got to see him (or her) again at 12 weeks:
And here am I now at about 18 weeks:
We will find out the sex at our next appointment and we cannot wait.  I'm feeling like it's a boy but I will be so excited either way.  I think a girl would be more fun to shop/decorate for, but really, I'll be thrilled no matter what.
James on the other hand, is pretty positive he doesn't "make" girls... so we'll see about that.

I'm hoping the next couple weeks will go by fast.  They should considering we are going to Utah for Thanksgiving and then supposed to close on our new house, and move in and all that jazz.

One more thing because I want to remember this.

The way I shared the news with pretty much every member of my family was, I think, pretty funny.  They all knew I was supposed to see the specialist so when they all asked me how it went, I got a kinda sad look on my face and said "Not great... they told me they couldn't do anything to help me" and then waited a second for them to get a little concerned before I said... "because I'm already pregnant!"
I just told James over the phone while I was at work.  Kinda wanted to do something fun, but decided to be lame instead.

I lied, I'm not done.  I must give a shout-out to my friend Erica who suggested this book.  I really think this is what made the difference for us (me).  I will recommend it to anyone who has ever or will ever struggle to get pregnant.

You're so cute! And I'm so happy for you! And now knowing that you found out it's a girl, it makes that part about James saying he can't make girls even funnier.
